Have you ever wondered what it means to be safe in this world?
As a young girl, Argentine was stuck. She could not walk, and she lived high in the hills of eastern Congo where walking was the only way to school, or the market, or any future at all.
Still, she refused to give up. Full of plucky determination and unaware of the war simmering nearby, Argentine threw herself from one dangerous situation to the next, sliding down muddy slopes in the rain and dodging herds of cattle as she crawled to school.
Only when armed men appeared in her village did Argentine begin to realize the extent of her own danger. Thus began Argentine and her mother’s remarkable journey across the hills, through lava-covered streets, and rebel-held towns seeking safety for themselves and their family.
In sharing her story of growing up in eastern Congo, Argentine asks a universal question. What does it mean to be safe in this world? Her answer is both searingly honest and surprisingly hopeful. This is a story of faith, hope, and the love that carries us all.
